Gamer Glossary

For those unfamiliar with D&D, I’ve added a glossary to make things a little easier. I’ve also included a list of sourcebook abbreviations.

Glossary
Modifier (as in [ability] modifier): The derived value from any given ability score. I have a bad habit of just asking for the ability, when I mean the ability modifier… you’ll figure it out.

AC: Armor Class
BAB: Base Attack Bonus
DM: Dungeon Master (the head honcho, the main man, the boss, the dude who has the power to say, “He’s dead, Jim.” Interchangeable used with GM)
DMG: Dungeon Master’s Guide
GM: See DM
House Rules: Modified rules that apply only to my game. Every DM has them.
Natural 20 (or Natch-20): You rolled a 20 on the twenty-sided die.
NPC: Non-Player Character (a character run by the DM)
PC: Player Character (that’s your character)
PHB: Player’s Handbook
RAW: Rules As Written (“Refer to RAW” or “by RAW” means following the written rules, no House Rules apply.)
SRD: System Resource Document (online)

Slang
BBEG: Big Bad Evil Guy (final boss)
Crit: Critical hit
